THICK AND DELICATE BLACK GRAPE

The “Lacrima di Morro D’Alba” wine is known since ancient times and it is made from a native vine of the Morro D’alba (ANCONA) area.

It seems there are references about it in some writings dating back to the Roman times.

Then there are documents which prove that in 1167 Federico Barbarossa, during the siege of Ancona, had the occasion to knew the vine.

Nowadays the area of production is very limited: only a few towns around Morro d’Alba.

The name “Lacrima” (in English “Tear”) comes from the fact that the grape skin, when it comes to the point of maturity, cracks, letting drip the juice content.

The grape skin, however, has a considerable thickness which, during maceration, causes the transfer of anthocyanins, tannins and coloring substances, which is very marked.

The “Malaserena” is characterized by a complex bouquet with asoft, elegant taste.

The climate exposure of the vineyard and the composition of the soil favor the full ripening of the grapes, givingto the wine a smooth flavour characterized by elegant tannins.

FAMILY STORIES

The Moroder family, originally from St. Ulrich, Val Gardena (Bozen) moved during the XVIII in the Marche region, thanks to the flourishing trade of wood statues that they were producing in their hometown. The agricultural vocation of the Marches and the fascinating vineyards of the area prompted them to devote themself to viticulture, since – it is assumed – 1857, with the opening of the historical winery, still owned by the family and located in the Falconara Alta Estate.

At that time The Moroder family used to produce red and white wines, with grapes from seven neighboring towns (Ancona, Camerano, Polverigi, Ostra, Morro d’ Alba, Monte San Vito and Ostra Vetere).

Today the “Società Agricola Moroder” is involved in different activities: tourism and ospitality, but also cereals growing, olive oil production, and the cultivation of a vineyard of “Lacrima di Morro D’Alba DOC” from which our Malaserena wine – a truelocal excellence – is produced.
